SERVICES & FAqs
1:1 nutrition counseling — in person & online
I offer individualized nutrition counseling at my office in downtown Ellsworth, ME, and remotely via secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth. All booking, telehealth sessions, and client communication are managed through Practice Better, a secure electronic health record (EHR) platform.
Insurance & payment
I am in-network with Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Community Health Options, Harvard Pilgrim, and United Healthcare/UMR commercial plans. I do not accept Medicare or Mainecare/Medicaid. My cash pay rates are $175 for an initial visit and $140 per hour for follow-up sessions. If you are on a fixed income or experiencing financial hardship, please reach out to discuss sliding scale self-pay rates.
As a courtesy, I will reach out to your insurance company prior to our first visit to request a coverage quote of benefits for nutrition counseling. Please note that a benefits quote does not guarantee payment or coverage. You are ultimately responsible for any co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, or claims denied.
What to expect
Your first visit (60–75 minutes) is a comprehensive nutrition assessment covering your medical history, current medications and supplements, lab work, eating and exercise habits, and your relationship with food. Together, we'll build a personalized nutrition plan tailored to your goals. Most clients follow up with one to two additional sessions at minimum; follow-ups are 30 or 60 minutes depending on the level of support you're looking for.
My approach
I practice evidence-based nutrition counseling while holding space for complementary healing modalities. I prioritize whole real foods without rigidity or fearmongering, leaving space and nuance for “unhealthy” or “junk” foods. There is never any judgement from me about what you are eating or not eating, I am here to support you at your own pace on your own health path. Every person receives individualized guidance and care because there's no single right way for nutrition.

In most states, "nutritionist" is an unprotected title, meaning anyone can use it regardless of training or credentials. A Registered Dietitian (RD) has completed an accredited master's degree program, a supervised clinical internship, and a national board exam. RDs are also required to complete continuing education to maintain licensure.
Many of us also have advanced practice certifications, which require 2000 hours in the speciality field and additional exam.
As a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian (LD) in Maine and other states, I am held to the highest standard of nutrition practice. This also means my services are billable to insurance, something that is typically not available with non-RD nutrition providers.

Life happens - no problem at all. I ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows are subject to a $50 fee, though I typically waive this the first time.

I do my best to verify and bill your benefits accurately, but if a claim is denied, you are responsible for the self-pay rate.
You are also responsible for any applicable copays, coinsurance, or remaining deductible as outlined in your Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
A card on file is also used for my 24-hour cancellation policy as a fee does apply for late cancellations and no-shows.
Your card will never be charged without your knowledge.

It depends on your goals and how much support you want. Most clients see me for 3–5 sessions - an initial visit plus 2–4 follow-ups - over the course of 2 to 6 months. Some people only need a single session; others work with me longer. There's no set schedule or mandatory minimum.

I primarilywork with adults (18+), and occasionally older adolescents on a case-to-case basis. If you're looking for a pediatric dietitian, I'm happy to help refer you to one of my dietetic colleagues.
